St Enodoc Hotel: Karrek Restaurant by Guy Owen

Perched proudly by the coast in Rock you’ll find St Enodoc Hotel, a luxury bolthole hotel that focuses on comfort, great food and a laidback atmosphere. More recently, St Enodoc refurbished various areas of the hotel, including their new fine dining, Karrek Restaurant which is now run by Head Chef, Guy Owen (previously from Idle Rocks.)

Oli and I were kindly invited to St Enodoc to experience their new tasting menu and wine pairing. I’d never been to the St Enodoc Hotel so it was a completely new experience in more ways than one. Guy Owen’s menu is crafted to celebrate the very best of Cornwall using locally sourced produce - particularly grown at the hotel’s farm ‘Made Well’ located in Devon. The farm is also a not-for-profit community enterprise providing services for people with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental ill health diagnosis in the community.

The Tasting Menu is crafted by 9 courses (£100pp), and an optional wine pairing for an additional £70pp. With a little bit of encouragement, we decided to dedicate ourselves to the full experience and enjoy the wine pairing alongside our meal. The accompanying wine alongside each dish was exceptional and enhanced the flavours of the food.

Guy Owen is a true talent. With 9 carefully curated dishes, we ate through each course completely impressed with the combination of flavours and presentation (and Oli is a chef himself, so that says something!) I’ve noted the sample tasting below, but let the photos do the talking!

Thank you to Guy, and the wonderful front of house team that looked after us throughout the evening. After dinner we made our way to the Living Space, where we met a lovely couple and shared a couple of tipples and our Cornish stories. A lovely way to spend a Saturday evening!
