A Romantic Escape to The Bird Box, Unique Hideaways
Imagine exchanging reality for a secluded rustic scandi-inspired cabin, tucked away in a valley in the depths of the Cornish countryside. My partner Scott and I were fortunate enough to embark on this trip, which was exactly what we both needed: a two-night escape from the digital world under the stars at The Bird Box, which is part of the Unique Hideaways collection (check out more UH Glamping retreats here!)
The Bird Box provides all the necessities for a romantic and peaceful getaway. The cabin comes equipped with a petite kitchen featuring hobs, an electric oven, and a fridge. The charming mini log burner is capable of warming up the cabin during the colder seasons. Adjacent to the cabin is a separate unit comprising a shower room and compost toilet.
It was a unique opportunity to reconnect with nature and soak in the outdoor bath whilst Scott cooked over a fire to the sound of the birds (delicious chicken flatbreads is our fire go-to!) Even when the heavens opened up and rain poured down, we retreated back to the comfort of our cabin and eagerly waited for the skies to clear so we could gaze at the stars through the rooftop window.
Nestled in St Neot, The Bird Box resides in a picturesque valley bordering Bodmin Moor, a region of remarkable natural beauty. The location boasts minimal sound and light pollution, creating a serene ambience that is perfect for escaping the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Upon awakening from our first night's sleep, we spent a few hours in bed unwinding while going through the pages of the nature books that we discovered on the corner shelf. Our intention was to venture out and explore the surrounding locality, beginning with a visit to Colliford Lake, conveniently located just a five-minute drive from the Bird Box. Subsequently, we opted to expand our horizons and journeyed towards Davidstow, a Cornwall favourite of mine! There are miles of forest and abandoned structures to explore, which explains Davistow’s former life as an airfield.
